Remember the 100 socks?…

…they arrived! Many thanks to AEE and Point6 for the generous donation. In outdoor pursuits, it’s amazing the difference it makes to have warm, dry, comfortable feet! We’re looking forward to giving the socks to our youth.

Cycling with 78 7th graders was fantastic!

We had our largest program to date last Friday - April 30th. We cycled with the entire 7th grade class at The Latin School for the last day of their Project Week. Their teachers asked us to help solidify some of the team-building they’d been doing earlier in the week, and to make sure they had a good time. We think we did that – we certainly saw a lot of happy (albeit tired!) faces at the end of the day. We had almost 100 people cycling – between the students and the 2 adults we sent with each group of 7-8 students. One group cycled up to the north end of the Lakefront Bike Path, while others went as far south as Northerly Island. We also had a group that stayed at North Avenue Beach, where we taught to ride a bike. All of the groups did some activities that explored trust, personality styles, and the resources available to them to help them through their lives. They also got the chance to journal about the week and what they’d learned. You might be surprised at the solitude we found along the Chicago Lakefront for the journaling. It was a great day!

3rd Annual Night of Improv!

Join us at Stanley’s Kitchen and Tap for our 3rd Annual Night of Improv. Stanley’s will be providing some fun food and drink specials (tater tots on the menu again, which will bring smiles to our staff’s faces!). Thanks so much to Stanley’s for your generosity! We’re also excited to welcome back Virgin Daiquiri, the all-women Improv Troupe that had us roaring last year. Many thanks to Virgin Daiquiri for donating their time and talent!

We hope you’ll mark your calendars now and bring friends for the show.

Cycling with 78 7th graders

We have our biggest program to date coming up next week, on April 30. We’re spending the day cycling with the 7th grade class at The Latin School. Our staff is hard at work figuring out the logistics and plans for the day. (The logistics? – we’ll have 100 people on bikes, but no more than 10 riding together.) We’re looking forward to the program and hoping for good weather! Thanks to Bike Chicago for a third season of collaboration.

100 pairs of wool socks

We’d like to thank the Association for Experiential Education (AEE) and Point6 for their generous donation of 100 pairs of wool socks for our youth. As anyone in the outdoor profession knows, when your feet are uncomfortable the whole activity can become unpleasant! This gift of new socks for our girls is such an unexpected surprise and will only add to the high levels of commitment that we see from them throughout our programs. We will be honored to be able to present our girls with new socks donated from Point6 AEE.
